One of our several cinema programs is redifining woman’s role in Indonesia. How woman depicted / reflected through Indonesian filmmaker’s point of view. Stereotypes, stigma, values, rules, roles are just some of the barriers that Indonesian women has to deal daily within a patriarchal and (mostly) conservative Indonesian society. They are tied to cultural practices, traditions, beliefs and customs. Although globalisation has an impact on cultural customs which have slightly shifted the perception of women in Indonesian society, they are still facing many challenges and obstacles. Various narratives are presented in Indonesian films to picture Indonesian women with their complex roles within the society.
